Tagum's Welfare Code for Children now an ordinance

Davao City (12 February) -- Mayor of Tagum Rey T. Uy together with the City Vice-Mayor Allan L. Rellon signed City Ordinance (CO) No. 383 otherwise known as the "Comprehensive Welfare Code for the Children of the City of Tagum."

The law intends City Government of Tagum in taking a positive response to the children's needs in providing opportunities for the development of women, men, and children in the City of Tagum.

Currently, the Local Government of Tagum has been supporting and initiating programs relative to children's welfare. However, there is an imperative need to institutionalize these programs to likewise involve the community or society in legislation, to promote general fundamental values and thus establish concrete plan of actions pertaining to children's development, needs, rights and interest, and principally through the process of allowing children themselves to voice their opinions on issues that concern them.

Coun. Mylene Baura, Committee Chair on Women and Children has mentioned that the rights of children to their survival, protection, participation and development must be given high priority. It will work for the respect for the role of the family in providing for the needs of the children and will support the efforts of parents, other child care and development workers, non-government organizations and communities to nurture and care for children, from infancy including the earliest stages of childhood to adolescence.

As what Mayor Rey T. Uy had time and again emphasized, "No child in Tagum City should be left unattended and unsecured for and the child care for today will care for the Nation of tomorrow." (Edwin Francis CIO Tagum) [top]
