by Rachelle M. Nessia

Dumaguete City (12 February) -- The Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) raked scored a 100% passing rate during the November 2009 Nursing Licensure Examination.

A statement from NORSU's Public Information Office disclosed that the state university is the only nursing academic institution in the province that garnered a 100% passing rate in said examination.

The total 17 successful examinees belong to the pioneering batch of nursing graduates from NORSU.

The following are the names of the board passers: Amor, Jan Rose P.; Baba, Ali Jr. S; Belotindos, Mailyn J.; Buella, Phebe Maris P.; Carmona-Marcos, Ma. Lynne; Ceriales, Anapres B.; Estoconing, Rocelyne Mae L.; Garsula, Darren B.; Gonzalez, Kathlyn Mae R.; Gutib, Francis Ray S.; Hontanosa, Rufa P.; Janquin, Peter C.; Lim, Putli Khira P.; Oracion, Joseph Arnold B.; Patrimonio, Pat; Rosales, Josette; Rubio, Angelie C.

According to NORSU Information Officer Joy Perez, the recent licensure examination showed low results from the different nursing schools and colleges nationwide based on media reports.

"In fact, the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) mentions the national passing rate as the lowest in the history of the nursing licensure examination. The national passing rate is 39.73%. Out of the 94,462 nursing examinees nationwide, only 37,527 passed the examination," said Perez.

The NORSU nursing program which offers Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) belongs to the College of Nursing, Dentistry, Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences (CNDPAHS) under the deanship of Dr. Dalisay M. Dumalag.

At the start of the offering of the nursing program in 2005, the college was then known as the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences (CNAHS) with Prof. Novalisa Arnaiz-Leon as college dean.

Dr. Dumalag said the result is a great achievement of the college and the state university while noting the great commitment and effort of the faculty to provide the best training for students in the classroom and related learning experience. (PIA/rmn) [top]
