1st Sidlakang Negros Int'l Festival opens February 12

Dumaguete City (12 February) -- A total of 27 countries have signed up to participate in the "1st Sidlakang Negros International Festival 2010" to showcase its culture, arts, socio-economic events, among others on February 12 ? 14 at the Sidlakang Negros Village, E.J Blanco, Piapi, Dumaguete City.

The festival is organized by the Negros Oriental Children's Network (ONCAN) and Provincial Government of Negros Oriental, which intends to globally unite foreign nationals staying in Negros Oriental for a cause through this celebration.

ONCAN President Baby Jambora said the international festival is initiated to support also the advocacy of ONCAN, a network of more than 30 Non-government Organizations (NGOs) catering to the needs of children at risk, like street children, children in conflict with the law, abused children, children from disadvantaged families, orphans and children with disabilities in Negros Oriental.

Of the 25 cottages of the local government units at Sidlakan Village, Barangay Piapi, 21 are available to "Adopt a Country" as its site to display each participating country's trade, cuisine, multi arts festivals, sports, among others unique from their place.

Before the formal opening of the festival on February, a motorcade would take place around the city by the participating countries at 3:00 in the afternoon, followed by a program ceremony at 5:00 at Sidlakan Negros Village with some theatrical presentation by YATTA and Vox Orphanorum, after which an opening of booths, trade fairs, food festivals and cultural night performances by different participating nationalities.

On the 13th of February, a Korean Film Festival will highlight the day with an athletic sportsfest and games to be introduced by different countries and continuation of product/food festival, cultural performances and slideshow presentation.

Some international guests from each embassy will have province tour to Balanan Lake, Dolphin Watching, Forest Camp with Casroro Falls and NOAH stone craft.

To conclude the 3-day international festival on the 14th of February, a parade of colors, international costumes and the Mr. & Miss Silliman University International Student Pageant will also be presented with a big bang of fireworks display at the boulevard courtesy of the Chinese and Korean Embassies.
