P31.5M KBP infra projects ongoing in Negros Oriental

Dumaguete City (12 February) -- The 53rd Engineer Brigade, Philippine Army undertakes another set of infrastructure projects under the Kalayaan Barangays Program (KBP) of the national government after completing the first batch of KBP projects in Negros Oriental.
A total of 24 projects worth P31.5 Million are ongoing in Negros Oriental with 11 infrastructure projects in the municipalities of Siaton, Valencia and Sta. Catalina worth 13.5M and another 13 KBP in the towns of Amlan and Sibulan worth P18 Million..
These infrastructure projects identified by the stakeholders of beneficiary barangays from suitable access "Kalayaan Roads"; two-classroom school buildings; Level II water system facilities; facilities for electricity; and suitable medical facilities.
Official from the 53rd Engineer Brigade, Philippine Army said these basic infrastructure projects are needed to boost the commerce and industry of the province.
Value-added features are also provided by the unit in every completed project like toilets, blackboards, teacher's table and chair, flagpole and electrical utilities, which are not included in the approved program of works.
Again, like in first batch of KBP projects, these KBP are also expected to provide job opportunities to the beneficiary barangays as part of the "Hire for Peace" program of the National Development Support Command, AFP (NADESCOM).
The local residents especially the "rebel returnees" are given priorities to avail jobs needed in the labor force component of the project.
As of date 6 school buildings, 3 health centers and 3 water supply systems are already completed in the province and will be turned over to the beneficiary barangays on soonest possible time. (PIA/JCT) [top]
