6th batch of senior citizens receives subsidy from 'Katas ng VAT'
Tabuk City, Kalinga (13 February) -- 579 senior citizens from four municipalities forming the sixth batch received P500.00 each subsidy from the portion of the expanded value added (katas ng VAT) tax collected by the government.
Libertine Balicdang of the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Cordillera Administrative Region (DSWD-CAR) said her team went to Pinukpuk, Rizal, Balbalan and this city to hand over the cash subsidy.
The one time subsidy is given to indigent senior citizens in recognition of their contribution to nation building, Balicdang said.
The program started second semester of 2008 and the sixth trance distributed last week is part of the 2009 funds. "Only the four municipalities mentioned were entitled the social fund this time because they submitted early their master list and completed other requirements," Balicdang said.
To maintain effective and efficient operations of the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) and avoid denial of privileges, she called on all local government units concern to update master list of senior citizens; conduct regular meeting; establish a functional OSCA office; and issue proper IDs.
