PGMA to inaugurate Surigao Norte port
Manila (16 February) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo inaugurates and unveils on February 16, 2010 the marker of the Socorro Bucas feeder port in Grande Island, Surigao del Norte -- a project designed to expand the market for agriculture and agri-business.
She will be received by Port Manager-designate Teodorico Taruc and Barangay Chairman Christopher Alvino Taruc.
After the rites, the President will fly by chopper to Surigao del Norte College of Agriculture and Technology in Mainit town here, where she will be received by Surigao del Norte 1st District Rep. Francisco Matugas and Mainit Mayor Ramon Beltran Mondano.
Transportation and Communications Secretary Leandro Mendoza will brief the President on the P41.211 million port project.
Implemented by DOTC from loan extended by Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) and counterpart fund from the local government.
The project involves extension of the causeway, and construction of a pier and stair landing support facilities and land reclamation.
The Socorro Feeder Port will serve the passenger and cargo handling requirements of the mainland Dapa town in Siargao Island and the fish port of Claver town.
It will also give tourists, both foreign and domestic, access to various tourism areas in Bucas Grande island such as the famous Sohoton cove is located.
Others who will guide the President around are Mindanao Super Region Champion Secretary Jesus Dureza, Mayor Alfonso Casura, and Surigao Airport Manager Rodolfo Collantes. (PIA) [top]
