P3.4 million DAR project eyes reduced poverty, unemployment in Davao region

Davao City (17 February) -- P3.4 million worth of agriculture and agribusiness project is presently undergoing in four selected agrarian reform communities (ARCs) in Davao region which is mainly aimed at reducing poverty and unemployment in rural areas, DAR XI Regional Director Datu Yusoph B. Mama said.
The above project is part of the Department of Agrarian Reform's support services to our agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) which is funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) under the Agrarian Reform Infrastructure Support Project Phase III (ARISPIII) to the selected and prioritized ARCs nationwide, Director Mama said.
Agriculture and agribusiness development (AAD) is just one of the components of ARISP III which include infrastructure and institutional development, Director Mama said.
AAD refers to the provision of necessary technical assistance aimed at enhancing the development of agribusiness in the ARC d result of increasing household income by about 30%. It shall provide employment opportunities to ARB through increased economic activity and growth of allied enterprises in the ARC by improving productivity and quality of product and services through the application of appropriate and cost-effective production technologies and practices, maximizing utilization of infrastructure and other available resources, development of established markets for the products and services, Director Mama added.
The under-going projects will be located in the provinces of Compostela Valley, Davao Norte, Davao Sur and Davao Oriental, Director Mama said.
In Davao Nortel, a total of P1,298,325 AAD project will be implemented at the Talaingod ARC ranging from inland fishery to integrated rice and coffee based production enhancement cum small farm improvements with three cooperatives as proponents, Director Mama said.
Davao Oriental has banana (cardava and la tundan) production with farmers learning center as their project amounting to P424,428. La Union Farmers Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Cooperative at Lacambita ARC in the municipality of San Isidro as its proponent, Director Mama said.
Compostela Valley province concentrates more on integrated palay production with total project cost of P1,093,000. Linoan Farmers Integrated Cooperative at New Visayas Cluster ARC at Montevista as its Proponent, Director Mama said.
Davao Sur on the other hand prides itself of handling P597,500 project using the organic rice farming using palay check system, Director Mama said.
Arni Mesola, ARISP III Consultant said, the above projects sill adopt the technology of Don Bosco Integrated Program with applied science and bio-dynamics farming. (DAR XI, PIA XI) [top]
