ComVal gov to go global GK network

by JMD Abangan

Monkayo (18 February) -- Compostela Valley provincial government is going global in its networking for housing projects for the poor and the needy.

In a Gawad Kalinga (GK) local launching here, Provincial Governor Arturo T, Uy revealed his planned trip to Singapore to attend this year's Global GK Expo which is set from June 25 to June 27.

He said he will be presenting housing initiatives of the provincial government and that he is hopeful to generate support from rich Filipino individuals abroad.

Uy graced the launching and ground-breaking ceremony of Bansilao Gawad-Uswag Kalinga Village of Monkayo.

The municipal government of Monkayo will put up the village of 48 housing units in a 1 hectare lot donated by the Brillantes Family, in Sitio Libuton of Poblacion Monkayo.

More than 700 Gawad-Uswag Kalinga volunteers will be mobilized to build all the housing units in a one week work from April 09 to April 17, 2010.

During the launching ceremony, Governor Uy urged other municipal governments of his province to establish their own GK villages.

"Di lang natin sila bigyan ng bahay, kundi bigyan natin sila ng buhay," he said as he called on other towns to mind the poor and needy families in their communities.

Through holding series of Bayani Challenge, the provincial government of Compostela has already put 88 units of shelters in Kinuban, Maco and the community is being called GK Designer Village.

The houses were built from pledges of benevolent individuals who were willing to help those whose homes were wiped out during the Masara landslide two years ago.

Located in the same place in Maco, another 116 units more have been built through the housing funds of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) XI.

"Marami ng pumupunta sa atin, they want to replicate what we have done here. This is not an ordinary GK village but we are building a model GK village," he said. (PIA XI) [top]
