DPWH XI completes P3-B major SONA projects of PGMA
Davao City (27 February) -- Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) XI Director Osop L. Ali announced that the two (2) major SONA projects of the President in region eleven have already been finished earlier than the scheduled dates of completion.
Director Ali proudly made this announcement during the Infrastructure Development Committee (IEC) meeting Thursday held at the DPWH conference room attended by the different national government agencies, local government units (LGUs) and private sector that are all IDC members in region eleven.
This is the main reason that DPWH regional office garnered the highest award as the "Outstanding in Project Implementation" and the "Most Improved regional office" throughout the country in December last year (2009).
Completed SONA projects of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo were: (1) the 57-kilometer road improvement/concreting connecting the roads of Kapalong-Talaingod-Valencia-Bukidnon; and (2) the 83-kilometer rehabilitation/improvement along Surigao-Davao Oriental Coastal (Manay-Boston) road. These projects have an aggregate cost of Php3.3-billion.
As promised, the Department has completed the SONA projects three months earlier before the term of the President ends (by June) this year.
The President, Director Ali said, has committed to develop Mindanao and have a massive road development program, enhance economic growth, agricultural and tourism development that will definitely increase transport mobility and accessibility within and outside the Mindanao region.
In Davao region, some 95 projects, with an allocation of some Php3.6 billion of the Arroyo Administration are being handled by the DPWH regional office to b e finished before the end of 2010.
The 95 projects are being distributed to the eight DPWH Engineering offices while about 16 projects are being implemented by the regional office.
Director Ali said that the full implementation of these projects (as a whole) is a reaffirmation of the President's commitment to provide adequate transport facilities in the countryside in order to enhance agricultural and commercial productivity and thus develop faster the economic well-being among rural folks.
During same IDC meeting, Director Ali has expressed his gratitude to all IDC members for the "confidence and trust in giving me the opportunity to serve as your Chairperson of this Committee. I know that with your active cooperation and support, we can tackle the infrastructure development concerns in Davao region," he added.
During the meeting, aside from the infrastructure projects, the discussion was also focused on the Profiling of Renewable Energy Resources and Potentials in Davao Region; the impending energy crisis; the proposal of the Provincial Government of Davao del Norte for the Construction of Flyover at Maharlika highway-TADECO Intersection, Panabo City.
Other proposals discussed were; infrastructure project proposals for national funding to be endorsed by the RDC XI; IDC accomplishments in 2009, Project evaluation report; status of resolutions passed by IDC in 2009; Updates on the IDC XI assigned benchmarks and the status of submission of accomplishment reports of agencies and LGUs; and other matters arising from the previous IDC meeting held in September 18, 2009.
