Green group to share energy-saving lifestyle
By Mai Gevera
Davao City (5 March) -- Understanding the need to save energy as the country experiences power shortage, an environment group in Davao composed of tourism and business sectors along with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources will share some energy-saving lifestyle tips to stakeholders in the community.
Green Alliance for Davao chairperson Baby Montemayor leads the staging of the Green Tourism Forum on Environmental Stewardship on March 8 at the Marco Polo Davao.
The event will gather all stakeholders in the tourism and business sector to tackle environmental issues such as the power crisis.
"It is about time that we in the tourism and business environment should learn from what is going on in our environment and do our share to lessen the effects," Montemayor said.
Both tourism and the business sectors are considered one of the major users of energy. With the rotating brownouts that are being implemented in the city, these sectors are most hit by the impact of power shortage.
Aside from the one-hour Switch Off activity through the Earth Hour 2010 on March 27, the Green Alliance is also for the voluntary switching off of lights on any regular day especially on peak hours.
With green tourism as the focal point, an international consultant on sustainable tourism and sustainable tourism and sustainable regional development, Dr. Stefanos Fotiou of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) will speak on Greening the Tourism Industry: The Role of Standards and Certification.
