DOST XI inks MOA on community economic development projects
Davao City (6 March) -- On February 26, 2010, the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office XI (DOST XI) Regional Director, Dr. Anthony C. Sales signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on Community Economic Development (CED) Projects in the Peace and Development Communities (PDCs) with the Action for Conflict Transformation (ACT) for Peace Programme, represented by Sec. Jesus G. Dureza, the National Program Director. The MOA signing took place at the Mindanao Economic Development Council (MEDCo) office in Bajada, Davao City.
The programme believes that vulnerable communities require economic support to generate transformation. Public investments are also essential in vulnerable areas to provide an enabling environment where people can mobilize their own resources.
One of the key strategies of the ACT for Peace Programme in sustaining CED projects in the PDCs, is to develop entrepreneurship focused on value-chain analysis and value-adding. DOST XI was tapped to help the PDCs in the region by providing appropriate scientific and technological interventions. According to Dir. Sales, "DOST XI is committed to provide assistance to the general public especially to the communities that are affected by conflicts in the region." (PIA) [top]
