by Cpt Emmanuel R Garcia INF

Camp Apolinario, Panacan, Davao City (23 March) -- A P4.5-Million worth of farm to market road was completed and turned over by the 10th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army to the Local Government Unit and people of Davao del Sur 2:00 PM Friday.

The rehabilitation and construction of the 4Km farm to market road in the village of Sinoron in Sta Cruz town was done by the Army's 512 Engineer Construction Battalion and; recommended and secured by the 39th and 72nd Infantry Battalions thru the Kalayaan sa Barangay Program (KBP) funded by the Department of National Defense (DND).

In a message by Maj. Gen. Carlos Holganza, commander of the 10th Infantry division and delivered by his Inspector General addressed to the people of Davao del Sur during the turn-over ceremony, he expressed his gratitude on the overwhelming support and cooperation of the residents and all stakeholders.

"Our government's commitment thru the AFP to provide basic services and alleviate the economic condition of our people has inched another step thru this farm to market road. The people of Davao del Sur, LGU and other stakeholders are the true heroes in the realization of this KBP project by giving their wholehearted support and cooperation," Holganza said.

The DND's KBP projects are countryside peace and development infrastructures ranging from farm to market roads, school buildings, barangay waters systems, rural electrification projects, day care and health centers.

Last year, Davao region was a recipient of a total of P76.9M KBP projects while this year, a total of P99M KBP's are ongoing construction.

Military and local officials are hopeful that more peace and development projects will be poured in to Davao region being one of the national priority areas in the country where the presence of threats to national development is commonly felt. (PA) [top]
