Davao City (31 March) -- Women have a big role in efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change.
Mary Ann Montemayor, convenor of Green Alliance Davao said that women are at the forefront of the environmental initiatives. And their role starts in their very own homes.
"Many may not know it, but efforts in conserving electricity like unplugging unused appliances like TV sets and electric irons are the key in fighting global warming. Montemayor said.
Lessened consumption on household electricity will contribute to lesser power plant capacity to gobble up fossil fuels which are the main causes of global warming.
Montemayor said that climate change was once an inconvenient truth in the past, but now it has come and the world must face it.
Last March 27, Saturday, Davao City along with the rest of the country celebrated Earth Hour which saw about 15-million Filipinos switching off their lights, a symbolic act of solidarity in the fight against climate change.
Last March 8, the world celebrated the international women's day and March is declared as the Women's month. (PIA XI) [top]
