RDC XI endorses P19.4-B worth of projects for Davao Region in 2011
Davao City (1 May) -- A total of P19,437,669 billion worth of project proposals of agency regional offices (AROs), state universities and colleges (SUCs), and special development bodies (SDAs) for implementation in Davao Region in 2011 were reviewed and endorsed by the four (4) sectoral committees of the Regional Development Council (RDC) XI during their respective meetings this month.
This was revealed by Director Maria Lourdes D. Lim, RDC XI Vice-Chairperson and NEDA XI Regional Director. She added, however, that these proposals do not cover the entire national government bureaucracy in the region since some of the AROs have not yet submitted their proposals.
The four (4) RDC XI sectoral committees are the Development Administration Committee (DAC), Economic Development Committee (EDC), Infrastructure Development Committee (IDC), and Social Development Committee (SDC).
Director Lim said that the EDC endorsed P1.03 billion worth of project proposals for the economic sector or 5.31% of the total proposed public investments.
The SDC recommended the approval of P6.1 billion for the social sector or 31.53% of the total public investments for the region. The IDC meanwhile endorsed P11.4 billion for the infrastructure sector or a share of 58.77% of the total proposed investments and the DAC endorsed P924 million for the development administration sector or 4.4% of the total proposed investments.
RDC XI Vice-Chairperson Lim also said that the proposed programs and projects support the region's 5 development outcomes, namely, increased job creation through economic growth, enhanced social development with direct poverty reduction measures, improved physical planning and sustainable management of the environment, improved infrastructure and logistics support, and good governance.
They also contribute to the achievement of Davao Region's Development Agenda of healthy and empowered households, enabling infrastructure, abundant harvests, robust industries, transparent and accountable governance and sustained socio-economic development.
She added that the proposals will likewise help the region achieve its bottomline targets and the Millennium Development Goals. They also address concerns related to gender and development, as well as, disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation.
The proposals will be consolidated to form the proposed Annual Investment Program (AIP) of Davao Region for CY 2011. All these programs will be funded by the National Government. Director Lim thus called on the local government units to complement these with their locally funded proposals to enhance measures to address development issues and concerns. She added that a large majority of the proposals in the AIP will be implemented in all the region's 4 provinces and the city of Davao.
The proposed AIP of Davao Region will be the main agenda of the next meeting of RDC XI on May 4, 2010 where it will be presented for the Council's review and approval. The approved AIP will be the basis of the region's AROs, SUCs and SDAs in the formulation of their respective budget proposals for 2011. (PIA) [top]
