Antique observes May as National Census Month

San Jose, Antique (4 May) -- The month of May was declared as National Census Month by the National Statistics Coordination Board. Per Resolution No. 12 series of 2009.

As provided for in Batas Pambansa Blg. 72, the conduct of national census on housing and population comes every 10 years or one decade.

This year's national census on housing and population will start on May 17 to June 11 to give time for the holding of National and Local Elections on May 10.

Jesus Escote, Jr. Provincial Statistics Officer said that his office is all set to undertake the enumeration process. Training of teachers who will serve as enumerators and supervisors were already completed.

In Antique, there are 480 enumerators and supervisors including NSO personnel who will undertake the census on population and housing of projected 112,000 households in 590 barangays in the province.

Among the data to be gathered are the basic demographic data of all population and the socio-economic characteristics of all households.

Escote appealed to all Antiqueños to cooperate with the enumerators and give accurate and reliable data that will give a true picture of a Filipino and its households because the result of the census is very crucial in national development in the aspects of planning, policy making among others including the formulation of the medium term development plan.

Aside from determining the total count of Philippine population, the national census also aims to determine the socio economic condition of the country.

NSO also assured the people that whatever data gathered will be treated with utmost confidentiality.

All government agencies and local officials are also enjoined to support this undertaking particularly by giving assistance to enumerators/teachers in hard to reach or far flung areas by facilitating their means of transportation and communication and wider dissemination of this activity.
