Miners, gold ore mineral processors gather in ComVal
Compostela Valley Province (5 May) -- As the World Earth Day last April 22, 2010 is being celebrated, the provincial government successfully conducted a Small-Scale Mining Summit at the Gymnasium of the Nabunturan National Comprehensive High School attended by hundreds of small scale miners and gold ore mineral processors provincewide and from other mining sites in Mindanao.
In his message, Governor Arturo T. Uy reminded the miners that aside from being responsible in mining, it is their moral obligation as well to take care of nature for the benefit of the next in line generations.
Anchored on the theme "Kinaiyahan Tinubdan sa Bulawan atong Ampingan," the summit has four (4) topic presentations. The overview of mining industry and the rules, regulations and policies embracing small-scale mining permits were given by Regional Director Edilberto L. Arreza of the Mines and Geo-Sciences Bureau. Briefing the role of the Department of Environment & Natural Resources (DENR) in the preservation of natural resources affecting mining industry was PENR Officer Glenn Adonis M. Rico of the DENR- ComVal.
On the other hand, Regional Director Metodio U. Turbella of DENR-XI-EMB shared the importance of environmental management and protection relative to mining and processing activity while Small-Scale Miners Consultant Ralph Basa took the topic on small-scale mining industry towards economic development.
