DA-XI celebrates farmers and fisherfolks month this May

Davao City (6 May) -- The Department of Agriculture XI is spearheading this May the celebration of the Farmers and Fisherfolks Month which kicked off on Tuesday (May 4, 2010) in the city.
Alfredo Cayabyab, DA's Resource Division chief, said that the main objective of the celebration is to give honor and pay respect to farmers and fisherfolks who play a vital role in contributing to food security in the country.
Cayabyab disclosed that several activities have been prepared in line with this year's theme "Sama-samang harapin ang hamon ng climate change gamit ang makabagong teknolohiya."
This is to update farmers on the latest technology that helps mitigate the effects of climate change, he said.
This annual celebration features simultaneous activities throughout the month of May. The festivity highlights technology seminars, food processing, technology training on butchering, tree planting, lecture on climate change, consultation on pest and diseases, product exhibits, film showing, raffle draws, distribution of farm inputs and planting materials.
