AFP,PNP await Comelec control order

By Mai Gevera

Davao City (7 May) -- Commanding general of the 10ID Major General Carlos Holganza is still waiting for the order that places Davao City under Commission on Election (Comelec) control but has already reinforced Task Force Davao even without the order.

"We welcome this and we'll take orders from the Comelec", said Holganza during the AFP/PNP press conference yesterday morning (May 6).

Comelec regional election director Ray Sumalipao is expecting the release of the order today after a hearing was done at the Comelec main office on Wednesday (May 5).

Davao City police chieif Antonio Rivera also said that his office will have to follow whatever order released especially after hearing reports that some police personnel may be pulled out from office once the Comelec order will be out.

"The Comelec will have to decide on that since they have the sole authority to do it. If that will be their decision, then we can't do anything about it," said Rivera.

The official answered alleged reports divulging plans of Speaker Prospero Nograles to change the set of police personnel who were said to be favoring Nograles' tough competitor for the mayoralty post, Vice Mayor Sarah Duterte and her father incumbent mayor Rodrigo Duterte once Davao will be placed under Comelec control.

Holganza explained that if incase new police personnel will be assigned in Davao City, that would be an additional burden.

Having new set of officers who are quite new in the area would be difficult unlike having officers who have been prepared and who have planned to secure this area, he added.

It was last February that the camp of Nograles filed the petition placing Davao City under Comelec control after the discovery of two improvised explosive devices inside the City Hall and beside Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas. (PIA-XI) [top]
