Central Visayas declares "all systems go" for Monday's polls

Cebu City (9 May) -- Cebu is "all systems go" including security measures for the Monday's first ever automated elections, said Police Regional Office-7 regional director Lani-O-Nerez in a media briefing yesterday.

5,607 policemen had been deployed in various stations in Central Visayas to assist in other election-related preparations and security.

Police action centers were set-up in every police station to assist voters & poll officials in any eventualities.

5,561 PCOS machines were already delivered in Central Visayas with 408 spare PCOs units for contingencies.

Tuburan, Cebu is ready

Tuburan town located at the northern part of Cebu province & is 108 kms from Cebu City declared today it is ready for Monday's first Automated elections.

The town has 66 precincts and all PCOs machines were already delivered.

Earlier today, all units were brought to the voting centers for testing and all systems were ready for the polls tomorrow.

Army deployed for poll duty in Negros Oriental

Army troops in Negros Oriental have been deployed in critical areas in the province for poll duty.

302nd IB Col. Ochotorena assured the public that the country's anti-insurgency operations will not be placed in jeopardy.

Ochotorena beleives that many of the armed rebels in the province could be operating in the urban centers now to campaign for the candidates for various positions that they are supporting.

Army troops here said, they have not encountered any rebel groups in recent months.

La Libertad town remains peaceful

The municipality of La Libertad, Negros Oriental, being tagged as one of the crucial areas on Monday's polls (due to the ambush-slay in 2007 where 7 people were killed) has remained so far relatively peaceful since the start of the election period, COMELEC official here said today.

Dry run, PCOS tests smooth in Negros Oriental

The provincial Board of Canvassers in Negros Oriental held its dry run for the post election scenario and the tests of PCOs showed that all systems are functioning smoothly.

The defective flash cards had been replaced & were deployed to all municipalities and cities in the province last Friday, May 7.

No untoward incidents were reported so far during the transport of the PCOs. (PIA) [top]
