Davao del Sur election officers elated by one-hour voting extension

by Carina L. Cayon

Digos City, Davao del Sur (11 May) -- Election officers of this province were elated over Comelec's order extending a one hour voting time to accommodate more voters to cast their votes.

Election Assistant Edgardo Sadili stated that the one hour extension until 7:00 pm today was a relief to the election officers and to the voters who were "eager and excited to vote" in the first automated election.

Comelec has expected a low turn-out of votes here as of this afternoon due to the slow voting process and some problems encountered.

Sadili said that some parts of the province experienced technical problems on the PCOS machines resulting to short interruptions of the election, particularly in the towns of Bansalan and Hagonoy. "The machines had to be checked by the technicians," he said.

However, he said, that this was just a minor problem. In other areas, he added, the conduct of election ran smoothly. (PIA-XI) [top]
