DENR holds National Flag Day

Davao City (29 May) -- The Department of Environment and Natural Resources held a simultaneous flag raising ceremony at 10:00 o'clock in the morning yesterday in all its offices in the region in celebration of the National Flag Day.

Regional Executive Director Jim O. Sampulna explained that the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines, also known as Republic Act 8491, states that every year, from May 28 (National Flag Day) to June 12 (Independence Day), all private and public officer are enjoined to display the Philippine flag visibly in their premises.

He said this is to instill respect and reverence to the country's symbol of national sovereignty and solidarity. The Philippine Flag is the embodiment of all our country's ideals, culture and tradition, Sampulna said.

According to Sampulna, DENR Secretary Horacio C. Ramos has issued a memorandum to all DENR offices in the country to conduct information campaign and other activities to enjoin the participation of all sectors to display the Philippine Flag in their respective premises.

This year also marks the 112th Independence Day Celebration with the theme "Kalayaan, Tagumpay Ng Bayan". (DENR-XI PR) [top]
