RDCC-6 flag warning system launched
Iloilo City (4 June) -- The Regional Disaster Coordinating Council (RDCC) will launch today, June 4, a project on the use of flags as warning signals at strategic sea ports, seaports and coastal barangays in Western Visayas as part of the council?s overall disaster preparedness program.
Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) Regional Director and RDCC Vice Chair and Executive Director Rosario Cabrera said the project launch will be done during the meeting of the RDCC-Communications and Warning Group at the OCD office at Camp Martin Delgado, which is the headquarters of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Regional Office here.
The RDCC is chaired by PNP Regional Director Chief Supt. Isagani Cuevas.
A draft of the operating manual of the RDCC-CWG headed by Engr. Nestor Antonio Monroy of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) will also be presented during the meeting of the council.
The modified flag warning signal system was adopted by the council by virtue of a resolution it passed last year to enhance public awareness of prevailing sea conditions during a storm or weather disturbance in the region following the successful use of the mechanism at the ports in the resort island of Boracay and Caticlan in Malay, Aklan.
