Tagum shelter assistance program takes off
Davao City (9 June) -- Tagum Mayor Rey Uy desires to bring the services of the government to the marginalized thru his initiated Shelter Assistance Program locally known as "Bayanihan Lingap Pinuy-anan".
Disturbed by the onset of poverty of his constituents in remote areas during his surprised community visit last summer, he saw some shelters which were dilapidated, without partitions, damaged roofing, and undesirable comfort rooms.
With the depressing life of the less privileged, Mayor Uy made a
statement that "those who have less in life should have more on Government services." Actions without delay, the shelter assistance program comes to its leap as Mr. Cesar Petallana Jr., the Executive Assistant IV, was designated by Mayor Uy to take charge of the program.
Out of the partial result, Tagum has identified more than 5 thousand houses for the project implementation to be installed with roof, comfort room, concrete flooring, and partitions.
Upon the verification of the Community Affairs Officer designates led by Mr. Warly Obejero, as the respective 23 Punong barangays certify, these identified houses will taste the efficiency of government services.
Amazed by local program of Mayor Rey Uy, Ms. Gloria Villegas, the area coordinator of the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) has expressed her full support to the program. She has emphasized the uniqueness of the program where most of the LGU?s have not yet initiated.
By month of July, the shelter assistance program of Tagum City will enliven the Filipino values of Bayanihan as the employees of the City Government will initiate the first step in the total repairs of identified dilapidated shelters in the city. (CROMWELL-CIO Tagum) [top]
