The communists are known to "purge" their own men in what they call as "cleansing" their ranks.
In the massive purging in the late 80's and early 90's, around 3,000 NPAs were killed by their own comrades nationwide in what was known as operations "Ahos", "Missing Link" and other cannibalism operations and killings within the CPP-NPA-NDF.
In Davao region, the most notable purging done by the NPAs was the killing of Evelyn Pitao and her live-in partner Ronald Dadula in 2009 which was even sanctioned by Evelyn's brother, Leoncio. The CPP-NPA-NDF and its from organizations initially blamed the military in the death of the couple but later on admitted their hand after witnesses surfaced pointing to NPA death squads as the assassins.
Last year also, Efren Obaton, a 32 year-old Ata-Manobo farmer and an NPA also on lie-low status was shot dead by NPA death squad in front of his three children inside their house in Sitio Barobo, Barangay Dagohoy in Talaingod, Davao Del Norte.
Early this year; NPA also murdered Dionesio Baslan Jr., in Tagum City; another of their own member on lie-low status.
In 2009 alone, the NPA murdered 83 individuals in Southern Mindanao; 52 of those they killed were civilians. (10th ID PA) [top]
