Reds carnap trucks, fail in attack against law enforcers in Davao Oriental

by Cpt. Emmanuel R. Garcia

Camp Apolinario, Panacan, Davao City (22 June) -- Local terrorists failed in a noontime attack against a police detachment and ambush of another responding police unit in Cateel town in Davaol Oriental province afternoon of Friday.

About 40 armed New People's Army (NPA) belonging to Local Terrorist Front-20 of the Southern Mindanao Region using two car-napped Sadam trucks attacked a detachment of the 11th Regional Mobile Group of the Philippine National Police in Sitio (sub-village) Tagadao in Poblacion Cateel at 1:00 PM but instead suffered casualties. Responding troops of the 1105th Provincial Police Safety Group were also ambushed at Sitio Canangahan in the village of San Antonio in the same town at 3:00 PM

The Police suffered three slightly wounded during the 20-minute exchange of fire in Tagadao indentified as PO2 Cesar Camomot, PO1 Lino Layese and PO1 Mario Renquijo and another three slightly injured in the ambush identified as PO1 Amin Abubakar, PO1 Abdul Mamid and PO1 Werner Marcojos while the NPAs were seen dragging at least five of their companions who might be dead or wounded as they fled for safety in Sitio Bacusan in the village of Kabasagan still in Cateel town. One of the trucks was recovered by the police together with spent shells of ammunitions used by the terrorists a few kilometers away.

Authorities condemned the repeated use of treachery by the NPAs in carrying out their terroristic acts citing the car-napping of vehicles and coercing civilians to drive them during their attacks which are violations of laws and put the lives of non-combatants in danger. Authorities also said NPAs disregarded the safety of civilians as the ambush and the attack was done near populated places.

Last month, NPAs belonging to Local Terrorist Front-18 attacked a road project in Banay-banay town still in Davao Oriental by using two car-napped trucks and forced civilians to drive the vehicles during the attack. (10th ID PA) [top]
