GTZ joins agri-aqua fair and garden show for Feast of Sto. Nino
Tacloban City (June 27) -- The German Technical Cooperation is putting up an exhibit on June 24-30, 2010 at RTR Plaza as part of the Agri-Aqua Fair and Garden Show hosted by the Provincial Government of Leyte and Pintados Foundation in line with the month long celebration of the Feast of Sr. Santo Niņo de Leyte, Ms. Julieanne Guiron informed.
The exhibit showcases the different programs and projects of GTZ such as Coastal Fisheries Resource Management (CFRM) which informs on how to manage marine protected areas (MPAs); how to eradicate illegal fishing; the legal provision and penalties for coastal-related violations; and its new project on the management of the Leyte Gulf environment.
CFRM also educates on disaster preparedness by posting information and reading materials on the five major natural hazards in Region 8; typhoon-potential costs of land use per municipality; and landslide, flood and typhoon-potential costs per year.
According to Ms. Ofelia Bernales, focal person of the Office of the Provincial Agriculture (OPA) for CFRM, it's the first time that they put up information materials on the different programs and projects of CFRM.
In this way, the level of awareness of people about CFRM will increase. She also added that the exhibit is open to the public because the people who visit the booth are different from those who benefit from the services offered by the program. It also opens opportunity for other agencies/organizations about the offered services by GTZ and OPA.
Other projects of GTZ which are included in the exhibit are Community-based participatory action research (CPAR) projects; increasing coconut-based farm productivity and profitability through pineapple intercropping and Techno Gabay- a program that provides a framework for a more effective and sustainable strategy for bringing the needed information and technologies to the countryside, which all aims to capacitate partner agencies and target beneficiaries.
