Region 8 launches One Nutrition One Nation Movement
Tacloban City (July 5) -- The "One Nutrition One Nation" Movement is set to be launched during the kick-off program for the month-long Nutrition Month celebration in Region 8 on July 5 at the Balyuan Amphitheater.
The One Nutrition One Nation Movement encourages people participation to improve their own nutritional status and to contribute to improve the community's nutrition situation.
Government alone cannot solve hunger and malnutrition. It requires the participation of every individual, Ms. Carina Santiago, regional coordinator of the National Nutrition Council, said.
As member of the "One Nutrition, One Nation" Movement, an individual can say, "I belong and I can make a difference to end hunger and malnutrition in the Philippines. Membership to the Movement means making a commitment to change one's personal food and nutrition habits and to find ways to help others improve their nutrition practices and lifestyles.
Living a healthy nutrition-based lifestyle includes maintaining desirable body weight, eating a healthy diet with more fruits and vegetables, having a vegetable garden in the backyard, helping monitor children's weight, promoting breastfeeding, and increasing household consumption of iodized salt.
One Nutrition means members of the movement are united in their efforts to help solve nutrition and hunger. One Nation means encouraging as many Filipinos to join and benefit from the Movement.
Anybody may join the Movement by way of being one with the nation in helping solve hunger and malnutrition, Director Santiago said. (PIA 8) [top]
