DSWD-XI ready to respond to calamities

Davao City (7 July) -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development Region XI office is ready to respond to various calamities which could strike the region particularly with the onset of the rainy seasons.
Social worker Marvin Javier of DSWD-XI guesting at the Kapihan sa PIA media forum last week said that whenever disaster would strike in the region the DSWD is ready to provide necessary assistance to victims and affected individuals.
Already stockpiled are 2,500 family packs which are rations for one family for each day. Upon six hours of disaster the Department can provide augmentation to victims. Aside from the DSWD, local government resources can also be utilized to add to these aid resources.
Family packs can be provided until a week of the disaster. A family pack consists of three kilos of rice, four tins of sardines a pack of meatloaf and dry clothes.
Samson also said that a system is already in place for the efficient distribution of these relief packs.
The DSWD together with fellow members of the Regional Disaster Coordination Council (RDCC) is celebrating the National Disaster Consciousness Month which carries the theme "Pag Alerto, Malayo sa Peligro." (PIA XI) [top]
