OCD conducts disaster preparedness and emergency response training
Davao City (21 July) -- The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Regional Center XI conducted a two (2) day program for all employees of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) Regional Office XI on "Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Response Training" on June 15 and 16, 2010 at the CSCRO XI, Function Hall, Davao City.
On the first day of the seminar, Regional Director Liza R. Mazo of OCD Regional Center XI discussed the topic on the Philippine Disaster Management System and Understanding Hazards and its Impacts.
This was followed by the discussions on the Seismological Hazards by PHIVOLCS representative Mr. Desiderio P. Cabanit and the Hydro-Meteorological Hazards by PAGASA representative Mr. Gerry S. Pedrico.
The topics on Health Hazards were discussed by Mr. Victor Guerrero Jr. of DOH XI and the Fire Hazards were discussed by SFO4 Antonio C. Mariscal and FO3 Danny T. Padayugdog of the Bureau of Fire Protection XI. The BFP representatives made an actual demonstration on how to put out the fire using the fire extinguisher.
On the second day of the seminar, the topic on Bomb Awareness was discussed by PInsp. Alan B. Verginiza and PO3 Delson Jun C. Pajota of the Explosives Ordnance Detection Team - Philippine National Police Davao City. This was followed by the discussion on the topic of Preparing for Effective Response and the introduction to Incident Command System (ICS) by Col. Mario Verner Monsanto, the Head of 911.
At the end of the 2 day seminar, the CSCRO XI came up with its own "Disaster Action Team" that will respond to any untoward occurrence of calamities and disasters in the office with the help of the OCD personnel. (PIA) [top]
