PNoy's first SONA includes issues Pinoys want addressed

Tacloban City (July 25) -- President Benigno Aquino III has been described by Palace officials as "very methodical" in his preparations for the State-of-the-Nation Address (SONA).

In his first meeting with his Cabinet on June 30, the President directed his Cabinet officials to "know the lay" of each department, and to file status reports as part of their input in the SONA.

Two weeks later, the Cabinet officials filed their reports, and defended these, the Palace source said.

To help prepare for the SONA, the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) conducted a survey among different sectors in all the Regions of the country to find out what issues people wanted the President to address in the SONA, according to Secretary Sonny Coloma of the Communications Group.

The top issues that emerged from the survey were transparency in governance and vigorous implementation of the anticorruption campaign; job creation, infrastructure development and poverty reduction.

This, Secretary Coloma said, is part of the PIA's regular program of feeling the public pulse.

Moreover, this is a fulfillment of President Aquino's statement in his Inaugural Address:

"We will strengthen the process of consultation and feedback. We will strive to uphold the constitutional right of citizens to information on matters of public concern."

Truly, the President was speaking from the heart when in his Inaugural Address he said, "Today marks the end of a regime indifferent to the appeals of the people."

It is therefore, imperative, for all the Filipino people to listen attentively and well as the President delivers his first SONA on July 26, not only to know PNoy's roadmap for development of the nation, but most especially so that each and every Filipino will be able to help and align their actions with the roadmap and achieve the true destiny of the Filipino nation.
