Ormoc lass wins BIR Eastern Visayas tax quiz

Tacloban City (July 29) -- A young student from the Western Leyte College in Ormoc City won the Bureau of Internal Revenue's Tax Quiz held on July 26 in connection with the BIR's 106th Anniversary on August 1.

BIR Eastern Visayas Regional Director Alert Alocilja said that the Tax Quiz aims to instill tax consciousness among the youth in Region 8.

From among the contestants from the different Revenue District Offices in the Region, Ms. Glory Joy B. Hibaya of Western Leyte College representing Revenue District Office 89, emerged as champion.

The first runner up was capped by Ms. Mary Ann G. Daganzo from the St. Mary's College of Catbalogan who represented the Revenue District Office No. 87 in Catbalogan, Samar.

The third runner up was Nadia A. Marquez of Western Leyte College, representing Revenue District 89, Ormoc City.

Cash prizes, medals and trophies were awarded to the winners by BIR Regional Director Alocilja.

Director Alocilja said that the Tax Quiz is a good way of educating the students at a young age about their responsibility as good citizens, that of paying their taxes and participating in nation-building.

The good Director reiterated that the Bureau of Internal Revenue in Eastern Visayas has an on-going BIR Exhibit at the lobby of Robinsons Place. The exhibit will run until July 30, Director Alocilja said as he called on the public to visit the Exhibit area so that they will be aware on various BIR accomplishments and to avail of BIR services like securing TIN Numbers.

The BIR Eastern Visayas is also scheduled to conduct a mini sportsfest among its employees on August 4 and 5, as part of the Bureau's 106th Anniversary celebration. (PIA 8) [top]
