Davao City (4 August) -- Newly-installed commander of the 10th Infantry Division Maj. Gen. Jorge Segovia sees the transfer of the division to Mawab, Compostela Valley before the end of this year.
After the Turn-Over of Command ceremony from outgoing Maj. Gen. Carlos Holganza to the new infantry division chief Segovia, the latter announced acceptance on the first challenge thrown to him and that is the camp transfer from Davao City to Mawab town of Compostela Valley.
" We are preparing the new site not just in terms of structure but also the facilities that would ensure security and safety of our soldiers," he said.
Segovia explained that the transfer was long proposed after feeling the need to bring the camp closer to the people and where conflict truly exists.
It was a plan never pushed in the previous years due to financial constraints. However, having this division declared as a priority of the entire Philippine Army, the official sees the final transfer of camp before yearend.
"We will also make sure that lines of communication are in place. It is definitely not just an infrastructure development but also we prepare the area in terms of security," Segovia added.
The new division commander formerly held his post as commander of 2nd Infantry Division covering Tagalog Region.
Holganza, on the other hand, was appointed as head of the development arm of the AFP. Such move is seen as a major boost in the AFP's peace efforts nationwide with his "out of the box" and soft approach to insurgency.
Segovia, too, expressed his plan of applying a not so heavy military operation tactics. Instead, he wishes to strengthen collaboration work with the local government units and the civil society as his way of fighting insurgency. (PIA XI) [top]
