Region XI entries vie for literacy awards

Davao City (1 September) -- The Local governments of Davao City, Tagum City, and Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur as well as the Cor Jesu College of Digos in Davao del Sur, are eyeing to get the highest recognition in the coming 2010 National Literacy Awards.

All four regional winners, in their respective categories, were declared champions of literacy along with the other short-listed entries from other regions.

However, NLA will come up with national winners in time for the National Literacy Conference and Awards on September 8 to 11 at the Teachers Camp, Baguio City.

This year's theme of the literacy week is "Community Development: A Shared Responsibility to Society Through Literacy."

The Department of Education enjoins all local government units and schools to participate in the coming conference and awards.

The conference aims to identify ways to strengthen partnership between LGUs and the community in literacy programs, and enable participation in development effort for the community.

One of the highlights of the conference is the awarding ceremony of the top five winners of the search for Outstanding Implementers of the NLP.

Winners are selected from the LGUS (Independent Component, Component City, Highly Urbanized, Municipals) for their exemplary accomplishments in literacy development.

Interested participants may send their named to Dr. Norma Salcedo, Head, LCC Secretariat at Room 413, 4th floor, Mabini Building, DepEd Complex,or may call through (02) 631-0567.

A registration fee of P4,500 will be charged to each participant to cover board and lodging, handouts, and other workshop supplies. (PIA XI) [top]
