Davao drainage team to run after "sako gang"

By Mai Gevera

Davao City (8 September) -- Discovering the entrepreneurial activity strategize by the so-called "sako gang", a team headed by Drainage Maintenance unit head Yusoph Jimlani is set to run after the members of this gang believed to have intentionally clogged waterways and caused heavy flooding in a portion of Davao City.

Jimlani tagged the group as "sako gang" for members strategize the blocking of waterways by filling in rocks and sacks so that vehicles get stuck in the road when heavy flooding occurs.

This is when the "sako gang" members start to make money out of the given scenario. They offer services at a price for vehicle owners stuck in the middle of the road.

"Dito na sila nagkakapera, nagpapabayad sila para lang maitulak ang nasirang mga sasakyan." he said.

Jimlani's team got information that members of this gang are residents of Bajada residing at the back of the Davao Light and Power Company facility.

The drainage maintenance team is currently doubling its effort in addressing waterways problems especially that the current drainage system in Davao was made in the 60's and was specifically designed for 50,000 people only. Davao City, today, has a total population of around 800,000.

He also announced that the team working on Davao's drainage system was downgraded to 100 from 174 members.

"We cannot question the mayor for her reason of downgrading the team, instead, we will just double our job," he said.

Garbage was also believed to have doubled in volume right after the election period. The drainage team sees a lot of election paraphernalia thrown anywhere possible. (PIA XI) [top]
