PIA Press Release

BIR RDO-3 generates P781-M tax collection against P1-B goal

By Jennilyne C. Role

San Fernando City, La Union (13 September) --- The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) - Revenue District Office 3's (RDO) massive tax collection campaign bares a significant P781,065,104.63 tax collection for the past eight months (January to August 2010) as against the P1,052,584,000.00 goal for the year 2010.

"Our healthy collection for the past eight months is a manifestation of our collective efforts with the media in terms of advocacy in our quest for meeting and/or surpassing our P1-B goal for this year and at the same time running after tax evaders in the locality," Officer-in-Charge Erlinda Victorino of the RDO-3 said during the recently Philippine Information Agency (PIA)-initiated press conference, this city.

For the first quarter, RDO-3 generated a total tax collection of P229,699,459.36 with significant increase of P40,100,459.36 or 21 percent increase against the quarter's goal of P189,599,000.00.

Second quarter posed a total collection of P337,725,961.98 with an increase of P66,349,961.98 or 24 percent against the goal of P271,376,000.00 for the quarter.

The good tax collection performance for the first semester was slightly affected by the performance for the first two months (July and August) of the third quarter where it reflected a negative accomplishment of P213,639,683.29 against the goal for the said period of P216,779,000.00, or shortly a P3,139,316.71 tax collection slippage.

Assistant Revenue District Officer Ernesto Mangabat justified that their office is hopeful that they could meet or exceed the third quarter goal of P313,235,000.00 to cover the manageable slippage for the first two months of the quarter.

"Our office had been implementing various strategies in coming up with the said collection whereby tax payers are given the ease to settle their delinquencies, hand in hand with the massive publicity and advocacy of our partner media in the locality headed by the PIA," Mangabat said.

"Due process is being implemented and what we are appealing to our tax payers, especially the delinquent ones, is for them to visit our office, make compromises where we can meet halfway inorder for them to settle their mandated tax responsibilities," Mangabat added.

Total tax collection for the first eight months of the year sums to P781,065,104.63 versus the eight-months goal of P677,754,000.00 where it reflected a healthy total excess of P103,311,104.63 tax collection for the said period.

"RDO-3 tax collection goal for this year is P1,052,584,000.00, so we still have to work for the remaining P271,518,895.37 for the last four months (September to December) of the year," Victorino disclosed. (PIA Region 1/La Union) [top]
