By RG Alama
Davao City (16 September) -- A day after his scheduled visit in Cebu, President Benigno Aquino III is slated to visit Davao City, Davao del Sur and Davao del Norte today (Sept. 16).
The one-day visit will be a series of stops to inspect hydropower projects, poverty alleviation programs and a meeting with local business leaders.
First stop of the visit will be a tour and ceremonial switching of the newly-operational 42.5-megawatt Sibulan Hydropower plant of Hedcor, Inc., a subsidiary of the Aboitiz Power Corp. Afterwards the President together with his economic team will attend a luncheon meeting with Davao City business leaders at the Marco Polo Davao.
After the meeting, the President will chopper to Santo Tomas Municipality in Davao del Norte to visit the Department of Social Welfare and Development-initiated Kalahi-CIDSS and SEA-K projects and a chance to meet with the beneficiaries of the poverty alleviation program.
Kalahi-CIDSS stands for Kapit-bising Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive Integrated Delivery of Social Services while SEA-K is the acronym for Self-Employment Assistance-Kaunlaran. Both are grassroots-based poverty-alleviation projects implemented by the DSWD.
This is President Aquino's first visit to Davao since assuming the Presidency. Following his Davao and Cebu sorties, the President is expected to fly to New York at the end of the month to attend the United Nations General Assembly. (PIA-XI) [top]
