President Noy meets Davao biz leaders today

Davao City (16 September) -- President Benigno Aquino III is scheduled to meet business leaders in Davao region today at the Marco Polo Hotel, along with his economic team members.

While the President attends to other activities in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur and Santo Tomas, Davao del Norte early on today, his economic team will join the Davao business sector in the Regional economic Manager's Briefing that starts in the morning.

The economic team to join the briefing will include Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa, Budget Secretary Butch Abad, Energy secretary Jose Almendras, Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala, Tourism Secretary Alberto Lim, Bangko Sentral Governor Amando Tetangco Jr., DPWH Secreatry Rogelio Singson, DSWD Secretary Corazon Soliman, DOTC Secratry Jose de Jesus, Trade and Industry Usec Zenaida Maglaya, and NEDA Usec Rolando Tungpalan.

It is during the Economic Managers' briefing that an overview of the administration's economic agenda, Philippines' fiscal position and trade and investment opportunities and the energy situationer and program will be provided.

The administration identified key sectors like agriculture and agribusiness, tourism, business process outsourcing, construction and manufacturing as those that will bring in inclusive growth.

President Aquino and his team's visit to Davao sets a sign of the administration's firm resolve to strengthen linkages with the business sector.

Secretary Purisima will present the over-all report of the Economic Managers' briefing to Aquino integrating therein suggestions, recommendations of Mindanao industry leaders.

Industry leaders will take this chance to provide insights on the regional economy and various factors that will affect the business climate in the medium and long terms.

Prior to the dialogue of President Aquino with the business leaders is his scheduled visit in the morning that same day to Hedcor Sibulan Hydropower Project in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur. It is a 42.5 MW project that taps the Sibulan and Baroring Rivers for estimated generation of 212GWh clean and renewable energy annually.

Another project to be recognized by President Aquino is the Davao Food Exchange Complex, one of the priority projects of the city government for the next 3 years. It involves the transformation of the NDC-owned 25-hectare area into an economic zone and the setting up of appropriate facilities for agri-based industries and its allied service providers.
