19 Dagupan barangays to hold polls Wednesday

Dagupan City (26 October) -- The election paraphernalia for this city are expected to arrive anytime today and voting will proceed tomorrow in the 19 barangays here which failed to hold election because of lack of ballots.
City Election Officer Remarque Ravanzo said he has advised the board of election tellers to get their election paraphernalia around 5 a.m. tomorrow to be able to start voting at 7 a.m.
Election only proceeded yesterday in 12 barangays because only 50,000 ballots arrived out of the 90,000 ballots shipped for this city. The rest could not be accounted for and efforts to locate them proved futile. Ravanzo said his office inquired from the other provinces in Region 1 and even in the Cordillera region but the search proved negative.
The Commission on Elections en banc decided to have new ballots printed. "Sa report na nakarating sa akin ay parating na ang mga bagong balota," he told a radio interview.
Meanwhile, winners in the 12 barangays for the barangay and sangguniang kabataan positions were proclaimed when the counting ended past midnight of Monday.
The Comelec and the Pangasinan police office described the elections in the province as generally peaceful. (PIA Pangasinan) [top]
