2010 Gawad Saka 2010 Search for Outstanding Agri Achievers nominates Rodham Cacho
Davao City (9 November) -- To give due recognition for exemplary performance of Filipino farmers and fishermen throughout the country, evaluators from the Gawad saka visited Panabo City to assess the capability of fisherfolk wherein Rodham Cacho from Barangay Cagangohan has been nominated as one of the finalist for 2010 Search for GAWAD SAKA.
Screenings of entries for the search of outstanding agri achievers gets on starting on November 3 and 4 eight teams of evaluators from regional office of the bureau of fisheries and aquatic resources and from the Department of Agriculture.
"The evaluators will determine and assess the capability of the farmers especially with the influx of technologies now available in the midst. They also consider as important factor of the farmers to different existing agri-development programs of the government." Stressed by Melchor Tayamen, chief of National Fisherwater Fisheries Technology Center.
This project aims to give due recognition and pay tribute to dedicated individuals and institutions whose exemplary accomplishments in their respective fields of endeavor and contribution to the country's agricultural development are deemed worthy of emulation.
"It is a tribute to farmers, fisherfolks, and institutions in recognition of their significant contributions towards a modernized and equitable agriculture," said by Aproniano N. Niņeza MFT, Fisheries Technologist City Government of Panabo.
The search will document the respective management and cultural practices of the farmers and fisherfolks and aims to contribute to the promotion of the long term sustainability, profitability and improvement of the living condition of the same. The awardees will serve as models to other farmers and fisherfolks, Niņeza added.
Gawad Saka was institutionalized in late 1990s as a joint undertaking of the DA, the LGUs and agriculture and fisheries councils in order to recognize best efforts shown by farmers and fisherfolks in raising agricultural and aqua marine production.
The Gawad Saka 2010 search has different categories such as Outstanding Farm Farmer; Young Farmer and Fisherfolk; Small Farmer and Fisherfolk Organization; High Value Commercial Crop Farmer/Processor; Coconut Farmer; Women's Organization; Young Farmer Organization; Small/Large Animal Raisers; Farm Family; RAFC/MAFC ;organization and Agricultural Scientist.
The search is in close coordination with the City Government of Panabo through the City Agriculturist's Office, Provincial Agriculturist Office and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources. (Markgellor - CIO Panabo) [top]
