PIA Press Release

Army soldier sues drunk assailants

Davao City (10 November) -- An Army Corporal filed a criminal case on Monday, November 8, 2010, at the Regional Trial Court in Nabunturan against two civilians for grave threat and coercion. The soldier was rescued by his comrades in arms while the suspects were immediately arrested by the PNP.

Corporal Dante Zamora and his civilian friend, Kristine Dupo, were walking along Gumamela St., in Poblacion Maragusan on Saturday, November 6, when they were interrupted by a one of the suspects, identified as Elden Ebio, who was standing beside a blue elf truck parked along the road.

A heated argument ensued between the soldier and Ebio, who was apparently drunk. To avoid further altercation with Ebio, Corporal Zamora and Ms. Dupo walked away. Few minutes later, Ebio, now accompanied by a certain Wesly Labayan, blocked the road of Zamora and Dupo using the blue elf truck. Labayan approached Zamora and dragged the latter to board the vehicle.

Not contented, Ebio stepped down from the truck and threatened Cpl Zamora to kneel down lest he would be shot. Zamora heard Ebio saying, "Barilin kita ngayon!" and forced him to on board the truck. Dupo ran away to inform the superior of Corporal Zamora about the incident. Soldiers then came running to help their comrade in arms and brought the suspects to the Police Station.

Police record in Maragusan shows that a certain Elden Ebio has already been incarcerated twice because of drunkenness and abuses committed. Wesly Labayan is employed as a driver of Dole Stanfilco. Criminal charges of grave threat and coercion were filed against the two. (10th Infantry (AGILA) Division, Philippine Army) [top]
