PCOO creates Central Communications Desk

Manila (12 November) -- In order to better manage the generation and dissemination of news and information by various government media assets, Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Herminio "Sonny" Coloma has ordered the creation of a PCOO Central Communications Desk (CCD).

As per PCOO Order No. 11 released Monday and signed by Secretary Coloma, the CCD shall be based at the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) and shall be managed and directed by an executive committee.

The CCD executive committee will be chaired by PCOO Undersecretary George Syliangco with PCOO Undersecretary and concurrent PIA Director-General Jose Fabia as vice chairman and newly appointed PIA Deputy Director-General Virgilio Galvez as CCD executive editor.

The other members of the CCD are: Director Tito Cruz of the Bureau of Broadcast Services (BBS); Renato Caluag of the National Broadcasting Network (NBN-4); Director Brando Merrera of the News and Information Bureau (NIB); Ishko Lopez of the Presidential News Desk (PND); and Danilo C. Taguibao of the Philippines News Agency (PNA).

Among the primary functions of the CCD is to ensure better and timely responses to issues affecting the administration of President Benigno S. Aquino III and the entire bureaucracy as well as to manage the dissemination of developmental news and information.

In a related development, Secretary Coloma has also ordered the creation of a centralized media monitoring unit.

In PCOO Order No. 12, the monitoring units of the PIA and the NIB are directed to integrate into one Centralized Monitoring Unit in order to remove functional duplications and maximize the use of PCOO resources.

The Centralized Monitoring Unit will also be based at PIA and shall directly report and operate under the guidance of the CCD. (PNA thru PIA 3) [top]
