The absence of a national land use policy is a priority issue for the Philippine Development Forum's Working Group on Sustainable Rural Development since it hampers sustainable rural development and causes further conflicts over the use of the finite natural resources. Particularly, the socio-political and economic interests are contending with each other for the rightful use of these resources.
Dr. Segfredo Serrano, Undersecretary of the Department of Agriculture and Co-Convenor of PDF-SRD and Fr. Francis B. Lucas, Chairperson of the Asian NGO Coalition for Agrarian Reform and Rural Development said that the event hopes to highl
ight the compelling reasons and essential elements for a national land use law which will serve as inputs in crafting the national land use policy.
In his State of the Nation Address, President Ben
igno S. Aquino included the passage of the national land use policy as priority piece of leg
islation under his Administration.
With this declaration, the PDF-WG on SRD is committed to provide the platform for discussions an
d dialogues in support of advocacy and joint actions towards the enactment of a national land use policy.
The Working Group is composed not only of national government agencies and development partners, but also civil society representatives who have been accorded regular membership status. (PIA 8) [top]
