Gov't troops score anew; wounded NPA rebel rescued
Compostela Valley Province (9 December) -- An encounter between soldiers from the 25th Infantry Battalion under LtCol.Gilbert F. Saret, and NPAs resulted to the recovery of five (5) M16 rifles, one garand rifle, one carbine, two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and NPA documents.
One wounded NPA was rescued and was immediately given first aid by the soldiers and was later evacuated to Camp Panacan Station hospital for medical treatment.
The encounter happened in Purok 9, Bgy Pasian, Monkayo Compostela Valley Province at about 7 o'clock this morning while the military were conducting routinary security patrol in response the reports of civilian populace regarding the presence of armed group in the area when they were fired upon by more than 10 armed rebels belonging to Guerrilla Front 3 operating in Monkayo,Comval Province.
The soldiers were able to evade the attack and returned fire. The fire fight lasted for 20 minutes when the illegal armed group scampered leaving behind one wounded rebel who was identified later as Lea Palma Gil alyas Ka Tanya, severely wounded on her right calf, along with three other lifeless NPAs.
A day before the incident, residents of the Municipality of Mawab, of the same province, openly condemned in unison the presence of the NPAs in their locality. Genuine development, peace and order and economic well-being of the municipality has been held back by these armed groups, they said. (10th Infantry-AGILA Division, PA) [top]
