Munai town reports 11 deaths among IDPs
ICC Iligan City (15 October) -- At least 11 internally displaced persons (IDP) died in Munai, Lanao de Norte (LDN) during the period Aug. 23-Oct. 3, 2008.
Dr. Sophia Omar, Municipal Health Officer (MHO) of Munai said ten (10) of the dead victims died inside while one (1) died outside the evacuation Center (EC) with lingering illness in old age topping the list of the causes of death of the IDP's.
In her report to the Dept. of Health-Center for Health and Development (DOH-CHD), region 10, Omar said the one who died outside the EC, Nor-Aine, 36 yrs. old from Kadulawan, Munai died of Psoriasis.
Of those who died inside the EC's, three (3) came from Tapurog, two (2) each from Matampay and Ramain and one (1) each came from Lininding and Pantao, all of Munai while one (1) came from Maliwanga, Poona Piagapo, also of LDN.
Meanwhile, the names, ages and causes of death of the IDP's who died inside the EC's are as follows: Magalona Umpor, Kasawalan Guinal and Fai Somasad, all 80 yrs. old and Nico Diranun, 70, Old Age and Pendolonan Somasod, 49, Asthma.
Lindaorang Basher, 35, Cough, Fever and Severe Pneumonia, Aileen Somasad, 9 yrs. old, Kidney Failure, Morsid Ditucalan Macarumpur, 1- yr. & 9 mos., Measles, Joharie Alic, 9 mos., Malnutrition with complication of Pneumonia.
Meanwhile, Dr. David Mendoza of the Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit of DOH-CHD-10 has recommended the isolation of the measles cases and the continuous conduct of on-going mop up immunization of children below 15 yrs., both inside and outside the EC's of Munai.
"In severe cases of Pneumonia and Dehydration, however, patients may be brought to referral hospitals and clinics," Mendoza said. (RCA/PIA 10) [top]
