Sibulan to hold workshop on open dumpsite rehab

By Rachelle M. Nessia

Dumaguete City (June 11) -- The municipal government of Sibulan will hold a Planning Workshop on Open Dumpsite Rehabilitation on June 16, 2009 at the Municipal Livelihood and Skills Training Center in said town.

The workshop is held in line with Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 which calls for proper waste segregation and the setting up of materials recovery facilities (MRFs) or ecology centers in local government units nationwide.

According to Sibulan Information Officer Connie Z. Rosales, the workshop aims to draw up measures that will rehabilitate the Cangmating Open Dumpsite.

The municipal government currently owns a central dumpsite with a material recovery facility at Brgy. Looc, Sibulan.

Rosales said the LGU has likewise started implementing its barangay-based Solid Waste Management Program at its pilot area in Judyville Subdivision, Brgy. Boloc-boloc on April 25, 2009. (PIA/RMN) [top]
