PTU Denmark extends support for BBCYs of Cagayan
Tuguegarao City (26 January) -- The representatives of the Danish Society for the Polio and Accident Victims (PTU) of Denmark has forged a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Katipunan ng mga may Kapansanan sa Pilipinas, Inc. (KAMPI), the Local Government Unit of Cagayan and City Government of Tuguegarao to push programs and projects for Children with Disabilities (CWDs) and Young Adults with Disabilities (YAWDs).
Specifically, the MOU was signed to ensure comprehensive rehabilitation of persons with disabilities, under the Breaking Barriers for Children and Young Adults with Disabilities (BBCY) project of the social welfare department.
The signatories are; Vice President Mogens Pederson of PTU-Denmark, Gov. Alvaro Antonio for the Provincial Government of Cagayan, Vice Mayor Danilo Baccay for the City Government of Tuguegarao and Mr. Panfilo Marantan of KAMPI.
The MOU ensures the continuity of providing free comprehensive physical and social rehabilitation, stimulation activities, and pre-school training services to the beneficiaries.
On the component of physical rehabilitation, the children and young adults with physical disabilities shall undergo regular physical and occupational therapy sessions to improve their physical condition and develop their cognitive skills as well as their independence in activities of daily living.
For the social rehabilitation, families of the beneficiaries will be assisted to increase their capacity to care for their CWDs and YAWDs, through counseling, after-care, and social enhancement activities.
The MOU further ensures that the CWDs and YAWDs will be given access to education to cope with the demands of regular school. It further gives appropriate educational/vocational interventions that will be tailored for the needs of each beneficiary.
During the signing, Pederson expressed the willingness of PTU-Denmark to give assistance and support to PWDs of the province into a continued partnership with the local government.
