More indigents in CL benefit from 4Ps

San Fernando City, Pampanga (20 May) -- Over 50,000 indigent families in Central Luzon are now benefiting from the government's Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), barely two years after the program was launched in 2008.

According to Adelina Apostol, regional director of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the program beneficiaries were chosen from areas with highest poverty incidence and on the basis of family income. Local Government Units (LGUs) assist the DSWD in identifying 4Ps beneficiaries.

Each family-beneficiary, added Apostol, receives cash assistance ranging from a minimum of Php 500 to a maximum of Php 1,500 per month.

The cash assistance is intended for health and education support of indigent children in particular.

In the region, Nueva Ecija has twelve municipalities benefiting from the program. These are Laur, Nampicuan, Quezon, Guimba, Cuyapo, Lupao, Pantabangan, Bongabon, Carranglan, Talugtug, Licab and Gabaldon.

In the province of Bulacan, ten municipalities benefit from the program namely Dona Remedios Trinidad, San Miguel, San Ildefonso, San Rafael, Paombong, Norzagaray, Bulacan town, Pandi, Sta. Maria and San Jose Del Monte.

In Tarlac, the municipalities of San Jose, San Miguel, Gerona, Ramos, Capas, Mayantoc, Lapaz and Concepcion are 4P's beneficiaries.

Pampanga has four 4P's localities namely Floridablanca, Angeles City, Porac, and Candaba.

The provinces of Aurora, Bataan and Zambales have two municipalities each which have 4P's beneficiaries: Dilasag and Dingalan in Aurora; Bagac and Dinalupihan in Bataan; San Marcellino and Palauig in Zambales.

4Ps is a poverty reduction strategy of the government, which involves the provision of financial assistance to poor households aimed at building human capital. (PIA-3/Reame Gamboa, Imee Yuzon & Rachel Viala) [top]
