Fully immunized child encouraged
Tabuk City, Kalinga (10 October) -- In celebration of Children's Month this October, health workers are again advocating the importance of bringing the children especially those belonging to the 0-6 month old bracket to the health centers to avail of the government's free health services to ensure their survival and proper growth development.
Dr. Segundian Gumaad, Center for Health Development-CAR Focal Person for Kalinga said that it is vital in every child's life that they should be fully immunized.
Commending the Garantisadong Pambata accomplishment of Kalinga as the top performer in the Cordillera Region, she said that it is now a challenge for the province to aim as the highest performer in the implementation of the Fully Immunized Child (FIC) program.
"Let us not only focus on the Vitamin A supplementation and deworming alone but also on ensuring that all children are fully immunized," she said.
Dr. Erwin Baclig likewise underscored on the immunization of the children to "guarantee the very foundation of Kalinga next generation".
"A truly a healthy individual, a healthy family, a healthy community translate into a healthy nation," he said adding, "If we can assure that health status at the early stages of individual life, just as the GP immunization, we assure the continuity of the Kalinga culture."
In a message, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Romulo Gaerlan emphasized on the eight Child Survival Interventions where he specifically stressed the immunization of children and mother and micronutrient supplementation and deworming.
Immunization of a child starts with breastfeeding. It is vital he said that we should protect our children through immunization at the very early stages of their life to ensure a healthy physical and mental growth development.
Bolstering a more productive citizenry, the Arroyo Administration had been keen in the promotion of good health especially among children, where the government endeavored to provide the essential needed health attention for the 0 to 9 months children, proper nutrition for the day care and elementary children through food supplementation and promotion of eating and promoting the production of good nutritious foods among the elementary and high school students with its Gulayan sa Paaralan and provision of Vita-meal programs in public schools.
