Electricity conservation highlights Consumer Month celebration

Tabuk City, Kalinga (10 October) -- With the theme "Leading the Consumers Towards Efficient Lighting for a Brighter Future," this years' celebration of Consumer Month focuses on energy conservation and protection of environment.

Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Kalinga Director Grace Baluyan in her announcement during the recent Kapehan sa Kapitolyo said that the government is again intensifying its campaign for the use energy saving light bulbs and compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) to replace incandescent bulbs in homes and in government offices.

"Let us be vigilant in conserving energy for this will not only help us save money but it would also be beneficial for our environments" she said.

In line with this, Governor Floydelia Diasen has also requested government offices to shut down their computers and turn off unused lights during lunch breaks to conserve more energy.

In Mt. Province, in support to the activity of the Consume Network - CAR in coordination with the DepEd-CAR to conduct a Regional Quiz Bee and Poster Making Contest, the DepEd Division Office and the DTI conducted last October 3, a Provincial Screening Game Show for the Quiz Bee for high school.

Participants to the Provincial/Division Quiz Bee Show are two students chosen after the District Level Quiz Bee Show. Winners in the Provincial level will represent the province in the regional level Quiz Bee.

A Poster Making Contest is also scheduled for the elementary level that will work on the theme. Each District Office shall conduct a District Level Poster Making Contest Best and the best three will be submitted to DTI for the judging in the Provincial Level Poster Making contest.

First five winners in the Provincial level will be submitted to DTI for validation. The first two winners of the five will redo their posters in an illustration board which will be submitted to the regional office.

Other activities of DTI Mt. Province in celebration of the Consumer Welfare Month include a PS Briefing with businessmen on Fair Trade Law-Enforcement and LPG-PS compliance inspection.

This year's theme is anchored on the energy conservation policy pronouncement of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo promoting energy conservation and environmental stewardship to mitigate the ill effects of climate change. (PIA) [top]
