Caloocan intensifies youth protection measures
Manila (7 October) -- Caloocan Mayor Enrico "Recom" Echiverri said he wants to further strengthen the measures in protecting its youth in the city so they may grow up to become strong, responsible and principled citizens.
According to Echiverri, providing ample attention and care in bringing up children can ensure that they won't have to go through violent or traumatic experiences, which could haunt them for life.
Among the related priority programs of the mayor is providing awareness and knowledge to parents, which would allow them to keep their children away from vices and other bad activities.
Aside from this, the parents will also be directed to faithfully carry out their "sacred duty" which is to look after their children and make sure that they don't go through harrowing experiences as they grow up.
The city government of Caloocan has also established a local council for the protection of children, which aims to focus on cases of child abuse and prevent the statistics from going up.
The Echiverri administration also put up the YAKAP Bata Holding Center, which takes care of distressed youth or those youngsters who are in conflict with the law but don't know the consequences of their actions.
It is through this holding center that the youngsters are taught how to reconnect with society and also learn what to do so they would not be again be found in conflict with law.
